What is a good place for Developers?

I was doing my nightly stumble and I saw this 2 very good articles. I Want XP not Vista

It's my second day installing Windows XP to my new laptop. Alas, it is still not working. I also tried installing Linux, but it also failed. :( Why does the manufacturers of new laptops adhere to the vision of using only Vista? They don't even add support for drivers for XP anymore. Boo.

Bonus Gone in a Day

Today, I together with my family, watched "Tanging-Ina .." to support the annual  Manila Film Festival.  Normally I only watch a Tagalog film once a year, just like today. After that we went to a computer/electronic shop to buy my new laptop eventhough my bonus is not enough. Luckily, the price from my last canvass is now discounted by not buying the bundled OS. Then, we ate after at Kenny Roger's Roasters restaurant. That's how I got my bonus gone in a day. Next topic: Why can't I install Windows XP in my new Laptop? :P

Attended Christmas Parties

It has been two weeks that I and other friends, colleagues has been celebrating christmas parties. Tonight was the company's christmas party and I think my last for this year. :p Congratulation to Glen, Mayang and Gabrielle, together with other co-groups for bagging a place in the war of presentations. I did not stay long to dance with other ropponggi-bar-hoppers and dance-addicts :p, because I am already tired and not feeling well. Sayang. Yabbe. I'll just free-up some space in my old laptop and post the pictures.  I leave you with Flo Rida's In the Ayer. In The Ayer - Flo Rida In the Ayer - Flo Rida Oh hot damn, this is my jam Keep me partying till the A.M Yall don't understand, make me throw my hands In the ayer, ay, ayer, ayer, ay, ayer [Verse 1: Flo Rida] Hey this is my jam Yall don't understand I'll make you understand What's pumpin in my CD player (player) Party all night like yayer (yayer) Shawty got a hand in the ayer (ayer) Make me want to take it ...

A Christmas Song in Japanese

雙子公主之Merry Chirmas大合唱.mp3 - Christmas Song I was doing my morning stumble when I heard this christmas song sung in Japanese. Omoshiroi. I think the singers were from the morning children show in NHK.

Baby, Don't You Break My Heart

Baby, Dont You Break My Heart Slow - Vonda Shepard This is an old sad song from Vonda Shepard. Bab, Don't You Break My Heart Slow I like the way you wanted me Every night for so long baby I like the way you needed me Every time things got rocky I was believing in you Was i mistaken Do you say, do you say what you mean? I want our love to last forever But i'd rather you be mean than love and lie I'd rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye I'd rather take a blow at least then i would know But baby don't you break my heart slow I like the way you'd hold me Every night for so long baby And i like the way you'd say my name In the middle of the night While you were sleeping I was believing in you Was i mistaken Do you mean, do you mean what you say? When you say our love could last forever (chorus) But i'd rather you be mean than love and lie I'd rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye I'd rather take a blow at least then i would know Bu...

Next Goal: Onsen

Image
Another activity I haven't done in Japan is going to an Onsen. This picture below is a mini-Onsen for the feet of train passengers in front of Kinugawa-onsen Eki (Station). If only I had extra time, I would have tried this before going home. Anyway there are still many Onsen places available out there, just like the feature in the recent Metropolis magazine (November 21 Issue). I shall conquer this with my next trip (someday ...), even if no one will join me. :p [This is what you call realizing your dreams]

At Last! Gone to Bar at Roppongi

Sometimes when I browse the Metropolis magazine, I see the Gas Panic advertisement. At last, I and with friends (Kojima-san, Ariga-san and Irene) went to Gas Panic and another bar-that-I-forgot-to-ask-the-name. In Gas Panic, the place is crowded but the music is cool and gangsta-like. This place may seem sinful, but if you keep your self still and just enjoy, well that is a different story! :p The other bar, has more order, space and many Filipinos. Most music played here are also enjoyable. I think this is the favorite bar of Master Agustin. Sorry, we did not bring any cameras because Irene and I have big cameras. We suggest just bring a compact camera if you want to take pictures. :p This is a new item, a must for adventurous Japan trippers. Gas Panic ( http://www.gaspanic.co.jp/index.html )

Going Back to Tokyo

I'll be going back to Tokyo after a two-week vacation in the office in the Philippines. I haven't packed my things. I haven't bought the things they asked to bring. I haven't paid my gym. I haven't thought the pasalubong that I shall bring. I haven't decided which jacket to bring. (since it is already 10 degrees in Tokyo :P) I haven't watched the James Bond: Quantum of Solace. (maybe tomorrow) I haven't taught my team about GTK. (as if i am an expert in GTK? Temporal Keys maybe, but not GUI toolkit :) ) Too many things to do. I have to finish everything tomorrow.

GTK+: UI for your Linux Application

GTK+ is a toolkit written in C to make UI (User Interfaces) for your Application. It is licensed under GNU LGPL 2.1, so it can be used by all developers even the software being developed is proprietary without license fees or royalties. GTK+ is not only limited to Unix/Linux OS but it can be also used with Windows or MAC OS. Just like other UI Toolkits (e.g. Swing for Java, MFC, Windows Forms), it offers the same functionalities like Window, Buttons, etc. Here are sample screenshots of applications using GTK+: Here are some useful links in developing application with GTK: Documentation: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/stable/ Tutorial: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk-tutorial/stable/ Beginner's Tutorial: http://zetcode.com/tutorials/gtktutorial/ For more details about GTK+, head to its official webpage: http://www.gtk.org/

News: Wi-Fi WPA Encryption Cracked

Days ago, it has been reported that the Wi-Fi WPA Encryption has been cracked, but WAP2 is still safe as they say. Thank goodness I am using WPA2 as my security. :P How about you? Do you secure your Wi-Fi connection? I think researchers and developers of Wi-Fi may need to come up with new encryptions as an alternative to WPA, just like they did with WEP. Wishing to go to Edo Wonderland

Image
It is already nearing the winter season and it is surely very cold in Nikko. I dreamed on going back to the Edo era where I can wear samurai clothes and watch some ninja stunts. Edo Wonderland is place that can answer my dream. I hope it will come true. When you enter the Edo Wonderland, you are given a chance to re-live the Edo era by wearing the traditional kimonos. I wish to wear some of this. For Female: For Male: Now I can't decide which to wear. Hope that someone can answer my dreams. (Ms. Irene, nakita mo na ba ito?) Busy Monday: Can't Get No Satisfaction

I Cant Get No Satisfaction - Rolling Stones Boosting one's morale is very tiring to do. :P I remember a film showcasing this song by an actress after she interviewed the people passing by the streets and then the people joined her singing. I just can't remember the title of the film. Anyway, just to sum up everything that happened this busy Monday. Satisfaction - Rolling Stones I can't get no satisfaction I can't get no satisfaction 'cause i try and i try and i try and i try I can't get no, i can't get no When i'm drivin' in my car And that man comes on the radio He's tellin' me more and more About some useless information Supposed to fire my imagination I can't get no, oh no no no Hey hey hey, that's what i say I can't get no satisfaction I can't get no satisfaction 'cause i try and i try and i try and i try I can't get no, i can't get no When i'm watchin' my tv And that man comes on to tell me How whit...

MARCH = FLIRTATIOUS

I got this information from Brigette's post ( http://breid.multiply.com/journal/item/229/im_perfect_-_from_Kristas_blog ) March means ... You've got the best personality and are an absolute pleasure to be around. You love to make new friends and be outgoing. You are a great flirt and more than likely have a very attractive partner, a wicked hottie. Like somebody with an August birthday. It is also more than likely that you have a massive record collection. When it comes to films, you know how to pick them and may one day become a famous actor/actress yourself - heck, you've got the looks for it!!! IN the next 6 days you will meet someone that may possibly become one of your closest friends, if you repost this in 5 minutes. "... love to make new friends and be outgoing." -- That's true. " ... a great flirt and more than likely have a very attractive partner, a wicked hottie." -- Maybe this the reason I have no partner because I haven't seen a wick...

I'm Yours

Im Yours - Jason Mraz This is one of my favorite songs of Jason Mraz. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz Well you done done me in you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted I fell right through the cracks And now I’m trying to get back Before the cool done run out I’ll be giving it my bestest And nothing’s gonna stop me but divine intervention I reckon it’s again my turn to win some or learn some. I won’t hesitate no more no more It cannot wait. I’m yours. Open up your mind and see like me Open up your plans and damn you’re free Look into your heart and you’ll find love love love… Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing We’re just one big family It’s our god-forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved I won’t hesitate no more no more It cannot wait. I’m sure. There’s no need to complicate. Our time is short This is our fate. I’m yours (Do do do do, skooch on over closer dear so I can nibble your ear) I’d been spending way to...

Remembering Takao-san

Image
The first time I went to Takao-san (Mt. Takao), I am with my friend JM. We tried to do an Amazing Race by going thru the 8 trails as indicated in its official website -- Just for Fun, but it was very tiring. (See image below) Image from Mt. Takao Official site http://www.takaotozan.co.jp/ The second time I went to Takao-san, is with my other japanese friends. This happened during winter. But that time, Takao-san was just a warm-up I did not know we are continuing to its neighboring mountains. After reaching the mountain tops, we ate kimchi and other spciy food to keep us worm. It was very memorable. (You can see more pictures in the Winter Hiking album.) Images fr om my Winter Hiking album Image from Wikipedia As Wikipedia described Takao-san: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Takao "Mount Takao (高尾山 takaosan) is a mountain in the city of Hachiōji, Tokyo, Japan. Remembering Mitake-san

Image
I think it was autumn when I last visited Mitake-san (Mt. Mitake). Due to the weather, that visit was very special because it made the place more interesting to see. The fog covered the place which brought a mysterious effect to the environment and a nice feeling to me. Images from my Mite Mitake Album Image from Wikipedia As described in Wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Mitake) Mount Mitake (御岳山, Mitakesan) is a mountain in Tokyo, Japan. It stands 929 m (3,048 ft) tall. On the mountain is a Shinto shrine. It is one of the many highlights of the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park, which covers more than 1,250 km2 (483 sq mi) of forested mountains, hills, gorges and some rural towns in the prefectures of Yamanashi, Saitama, Nagano and Tokyo.

What Elmer Means

Image
Just doing what Kuya Jowel did. hahaha. (Gaya-gaya) What Elmer Means You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together. You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow. You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily. Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is. You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated. You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want. You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way! You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You defi...

What drives best workers out of the door?

I was doing my nightly stumble and I saw this article about 5 ways to drive the best workers out of the door. It talks about the things that a manager should not do with best workers. Below is some of my comments of being an employee. 5 ways to drive your best workers out the door -- Listen up, managers: Employees don't quit the job; they quit you. Mistake No. 1: Keep the creative juices bottled up. [E] As a developer, if I will not be able to share my ideas about the development this will really piss me off. Mistake No. 2: Micromanage your staff. [E] Yes I think micromanaging for me has disadvantages. I, myself, don't want too be questioned every now and then about my work status. I will tell you if I have problems or have already finished with the task. Mistake No. 3: Deny new opportunities and challenges. [E] Sometimes there are new opportunities and challenges that comes your way, but sometimes you feel that there is a better path for you. When I was a newbie, I l...

Can't Wait For This Year's Team Building

3 Days to Go and it will another Team Building for DG12. But I feel it will be a deja vu, because we will be on the same place as last year. Hopefully this year it is better -- no more heavy rain showers to ruin the scene. And, I got my new camera to waste its space for pictures. :D

I am a Modern, Cool Nerd

Image
I saw Vanie's post about Geeks, Nerds, and Dorks. Whew! At least I am a Nerd instead of a Dork. :P Your result for The Nerd? Geek? or Dork? Test... 78 % Nerd, 83% Geek, 35% Dork Modern, Cool Nerd For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd . Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." Th...

Review: Romantic Programmer

While doing my stumble this morning I saw this blog post about love lines used by romantic programmers. Being a code reviewer I can't help myself but to comment on some lines -- just for fun. :P First, the title does not describe a romantic programmer in general, maybe it should be renamed to "Romantic Java Programmer". "You are my initializer: without you, my life would point to nothing (null)." --> It is not true all the time that it would point to nothing(null). "I am a BufferedReader. You input meaning into my life." --> Well you can use other readers and still have meaning. "You are my semicolon; always present in everything I do." --> Who said so. "If I were a method, you must be my parameter, because I will always need you." --> There is a concept of void parameter, which you won't need any parameter. "My love is a for loop without the increment operator-- infinitive, non-terminating, and difficult ...

Your Working Style

I was doing my nightly stumble and I saw some of Vannie's post. http://vanyei.multiply.com/journal/item/14/What_is_Your_Working_Style Here is my working style: You are friendly, adaptable and a realist. You rely on what you see, hear, and know first-hand. You good-naturedly accept and use the facts around you. You look for a satisfying solution instead of trying to impose any "should" or "must" of your own. You are sure a satisfying solution will turn up once you have grasped all the facts. You solve problems by being adaptable, and often can get other to adapt, too. People generally like you well enough to consider any compromise you suggest. You are unprejudiced open-minded, and tolerant of most everyone-- including yourself. You take things as they are and thus may be very good at easing a tense situation and pulling conflicting factions together. You are actively curious about objects, scenery, activities, food, people, or anything new presented t...

Japan Earthquake Report 2008-07-24

Just past 12, there was an earthquake again in Tokyo. Nowadays, I also put a glass of water on top of a table to detect if it is really an earthquake. :p I have also downloaded an earthquake notifier, to know more of the details. Another Stabbing in Tokyo

Recently stabbing incidents in Tokyo is becoming a fad. Anyone who can not handle their problems will just stab people in random. Is life becoming harder for a person to handle? Why include other people? Such cases just complicates our life more. I think, sometimes we just need to take a break to forget our problems. What shall I do now? This is another problem. :p Maybe I'll just avoid going to crowded places or better yet stay at home to take a break.

Summer JDrama 2008

Image
I am back in Japan and able to watch again some drama series. This summer here are some of interesting jdramas I have watched so far - all from the Nippon Television Network. Seigi no Mikata A story about Yoko, who is constantly tormented by her sister Makiko. Yasuko to Kenji A story about Kenji, who is gang leader, and his sister Yasuko along with Erika, a lady gang leader who is in love with Kenji. Gakkou ja Oshierarenai A story about a school who allowed some male students to an all-girl school and this new students were matched with other female students to form a dance club.
